Foam Board Delta Build:

There are many versions of the beloved Delta flying wing. This particular model is made from a single piece of Dollar Tree foamboard, pre-covered with packing tape, and assembled with hot glue and two-sided foam tape. Its mission is to go very fast with a medium-sized powerplant and 3-cell battery pack. It is easy to build, with only two straight wing cuts, two hinge cuts, and two score-fold-glue joints for the vertical stabilizers. The scale and style factor is pretty humble in order to keep the weight down and the build simple, but it can be made to look relatively cool enough with some nice colored packing tape. Wingspan 21", length 19", AUW 500-650g, speed 60-75mph. I have used 1100kV and 1500kV 70g, 330 watt +/- motors with 8x6 APC props and 3-cell 2200mAh battery packs and gotten very respectable performance. A 2200kV with 6x4 and a 1300mAh pack was 400g and pretty quick as well. One could use a higher kV rating and/or cell count for faster speeds. My flying park is pretty tight and surrounded by $$property and vehicles so I keep it tame. A properly balanced tractor prop is very quiet, not like many pusher flying wings. 64mm EDF works very well too, mounted on top, with a paper cup thrust tube. These can be very fast and nimble with a roll rate over 1000 degrees per second, so I would recommend having at least intermediate skills and low rates to start. Launch 1/2 throttle at 30 degree up-angle and trim while at altitude. The EDF does well with landing gear (nose wheel ...

This page describes the set up of a Basic QuadCopter and is intended to give you a foundation on the practice of building a simple and cost effective frame. There will be two types of Basic QuadCopter. One with short arms finishing just past the motor mounts and one with longer arms to protect the props.

Landing gear:

HK450 landing gear works great, but any 450 size helicopter landing skid with mounting holes in the center should work fine.
You will need to buy three parts to build the landing skids.

Optional Modded Parts:

Landing skid pipe - http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11501

Arms:
You will need Y-3,4Quad,6Hexacopter8Octocopterarms, but you should get some spares if you want. Crashings allways nearby.

Short Armed:

The arms are approx 8.5 mm longer than the furthest motor mount hole
Drill the 265 mm arms in the following way (from center to end of arm).
5mm (3mm), 15mm (3mm), 35.5mm (3mm), 46mm (3mm), 223.5mm (3mm), 240mm (4.5mm), 256.5mm (3mm).
The 4.5mm hole is for the motor shaft, the rest is for the center plates and the motor mount.

Long Armed:

The arms are approx 20mm + longer than the extended propellers so when (not IF) you crash, the arms will save the props.
Drill the 300mm arms in the following way (from center to end of arm).
5mm (3mm), 15mm (3mm), 35.5mm (3mm), 46mm (3mm), 223.5mm (3mm), 240mm (4.5mm), 256.5mm (3mm).
The 4.5mm hole is for the motor shaft, the rest is for the center plates and the motor mount.
Make your arms and buy more aluminum than you need as you will probably need to replace the arms at some point.

Nice and clean construction. I believe that they are the perfect match for the scratch built frame that I used them with. It is a Hexacopter Y6 configuration, and being a test platform it was not light "at all"... These motors combined with the HobbyKing SS Series 18-20 Card Programmable ESC's was phenomenal! I am now moving on to my next build and these will be used in my new Quadcopter also! For a video, look up the words "moisdude hexacopter teaser" in YouTube ok. OH: by the way, I also bought the 5.4g 200mw transmitter receiver set for doing FPV on my new Quad... :-) Thank you HobbyKing

The main frame is high quality glass fiber while the arms are constructed from ultra durable polyamide nylon. This quad not only looks great, its very well thought out as well. Assembly is a breeze with pre-threaded brass sleeves for all of the frame bolts, so no lock-nuts are required. It utilizes one size of bolt for the entire build, making the hardware very easy to keep in order and only requiring one size of hex wrench to assemble. The SK450 also has an orientation feature which is quite clever. It includes a yellow foam ball which you install on a carbon rod that mounts between the frame arms. This not only acts as a bumper to prevent running into obstacles, it also makes for a great orientation aid to keep track of the front of the quad while flying. We offer a full line of multi-rotor electronics such as multi-rotor control board, ESC & motors. It has never been easier or ...

DJI F550 HEAVY LIFT CONVERSION KIT "AVAILABLE NOW FOR F550/F450"
Published onApr 30, 2012byAerialMediaPros11,911 views

This is a short intro on the Heavy Lift Conversion Kit from AerialMediaPros.com
We have CNC'd and anodized our own Aluminum Motor plates. These are ready to mount your Avroto or AXI 2814 motors. They extend the length of the arm, allowing you to run a 11-12" Prop. With this added power and prop combo, you can now safely fly a decent sized Camera Gimbal and DSLR camera.

The Copter shown is a F550 NAZA ARF, Built with The AMP Conversion Set, AXI 2814/22 motors, Droidworx Exstended Landing Gear, Photohigher AV130 Gimbal, FPV 520 Cam, and 1.3 Ghz Video TX. The video was a little rough due to the Cheap, Unbalanced Slow Fly Props. I am sure video will be much smoother and clear once the Xoar props arrive.

Weight Of F550 Converted with AXI motors, Gimbal, Landing gear, RTF without lipo = 2404 grams

Weight RTF With 8000 mAh Lipo, Landing gear, AV130, and Canon T2I = 4042 grams
With this RTF set up, and 11X3,8 Props, I was getting right at 5min flight time flying the Canon T2I (766 grams). Exspect closer to 10 min with a GoPro or lighter camera. I will be trying out diffrent prop and lipo configurations to get longer flight times.

In the stock configuration, with the larger motors, 11x3.8 props, and conversion kit (No landing gear, camera, or gimbal) I was getting 15.36min flight time using a 4S 6000mAh lipo.

TO ORDER the CONVERSION KIT
visit AerialMediaPros.com, and visit the store. We have a package including the mounts and (6) Avroto motors available. Shipping begins on May 4.

Feel free to email aerialmediapros@yahoo.com or call 888-557-6791 with any questions.

MT 3506 650kv brushless motor
Today I found a very interesting multicopter motor, the T-motor 3506 650 kv from Tiger Motors. This multicopter motor is from their MT series, which is specially developed for multirotors. The other two multicopter motors are MT 2214 and MT 2216.

I have previously written shortly about Tiger Motors because the motor’s bell implies it’s from the same manufacturer as the Avroto motors when I wrote about the Avroto 2814.

MT 3506's long cables makes it easier to have the cables inside the arms of the multicopter frame
For my large heavy lift Y6 multicopter I use the RC-timer BC 3536 750 kv, but if I one day will build a slightly smaller multicopter I will definitly take a closer look at those MT 3506 multicopter motors.

Naza gains need to be adjusted. Disk loading is not the best for Naza, around 4.7kg/m2. The 2200mAh/45C 2s lipo is quite warm, although the max. C draw is 43C/6.8V. Need to get a higher capacity one.

Quadcopter V2 - x525 v3 Frame - iPhone 4 HD video

HobbyKing are now stocking the x525 -http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=22800&aff=404649

My second version of my HobbyKing Quadcopter.

The electrics are the same, but added a brand new solid frame (x525 v3 foldable frame). This has made a huge difference in the stability. I did not think I would get it so stable. I specifically like the spring loaded feet on the x525 v3 frame. It is really a simple but solid quadcopter frame - I love it.

The video was recorded using a iPhone 4 (protected in a Otterbox Defender Case). It was pretty windy and I haven't yet built a anti vibration mount for the camera yet. The onboard videos were literally the iPhone taped onto the frame (hence the vibrations).

A few notes:
1 -- I'm not known for my videoing skills
2 - I'm not known for my flying
3 - I'm not known for my building skills! :)

Enough said.... Be nice :)

Kit List - All standard no mods.

Buy any of the following and you will have a good, solid, advanced quadcopter. Why spend £300 or so on a AR Drone when you can buy a proper quadcopter with a decide payload capacity?

With a 3 cell 2200 mAh battery and iPhone attached, I can achieve at least 12 minutes of normal flight. I sometimes strap two 3 cell 2200 mAh battery together and run in parallel to achieve a flight in excess of 25 minutes (normal flight).

This DJI F550 Flame Wheel GPS Naza Ready To Fly Kit is supplied with a Futaba T8J radio control system with the S-Bus enabled full range R2008SB receiver, a powerful 50W LiPo charger and 5200 mAh LiPo battery. This is all you need to fly in one pre-build RTF kit.

This is one of the most popular and easiest to fly HexaCopter with the class leading GPS Naza Flight Controller from DJI Innovations, it can be used for aerial photography, entertainment, FPV (First Person View) flights and other aero modelling activities from the box!.

The F550 Flame Wheel HexaCopter:

The DJI F550 Flame Wheel frames are built from very strong materials, the arms are made from the ultra strong PA66+30GF material which provides better resistance to damage on hard landings, while the main frame plates use a high strength compound PCB material, which makes wiring of the ESC's and the LiPo battery more tidy and safe on the lower of the two frame plates which is also the power distribution board.

The overall frame design of the F550 Flame Wheel frame provides enough space when assembled to fit the GPS Naza Flight Control systems between the top and bottom plates of the Flame Wheel while still allowing enough additional space to add a video transmitter or other systems to the frame for FPV use. The arms supplied in the kit are 2 different colours, 2 red and 2 white to allow for improved visual orientation in flight.

The GPS Naza Flight Controller:$$$$$$$$$$$$

The DJI GPS Naza is the outstanding flight controller from DJI Innovations. The NAZA GPS has RTH (Return-To-Home); IOC (Intelligent Orientation Control) and Low Battery warning (please see the full features and functions list on the GPS NAZA product page for additional information on the features and functions). The DJI GPS Naza Flight Controller is an all-in-one lightweight multi-axis control platform specially designed for multi rotor QuadCopters with the aero model hobbyists in mind. The module integrates all of the controller, gyroscope, accelerometer and a barometer for altitude and position hold all in the one small box located at the centre of the F550 Flame Wheel. There is a two-level low voltage protection system built in to the Naza system; the first is a low voltage LED alarm while the second is an automatic landing, saving expensive repair bills!

The DJI GPS Naza flight controller is different from the DJI Wookong M WKM which is designed for heavy payloads and aerial photography, however the outstanding flight stability and manoeuvrability of the DJI GPS Naza Flight Controller is inherited from the WKM's outstanding flight control algorithms, this means the hobbyists can have access to the very best flight experience and the advanced control algorithm seen on the DJI Wookong M WKM for a much lower price.

The Futaba T8J RC System:

The supplied Futaba T8J with S-Bus enabled full range R2008SB receiver is an easy to use 8 channel RC Radio system. The radio system comes fully programmed ready for flight, with all settings pre-programmed for Home Lock, Corse Lock, GPS Position Hold, Altitude Hold and Return To Home Fail Safe setting in the event of the QuadCopter going beyond the range of the radio, the only setting you will need to adjust is the compass calibration, this has to be carried out at a location close to the place which the QuadCopter will be flown, however it takes about 30 seconds to do and is little more than flicking a switch 10 times to enter the compass calibration mode.

The Futaba T8J is the perfect radio to use with the DJI GPS Naza Flight Controller as it takes full advantage of the Futaba S-Bus system, this means that there is a very tidy installation over and above other non S-Bus systems like the Spektrum DX8 using an AR8000 receiver, this means you only have one wire for all communications with the Naza Flight Controller from the 8J and R2008GS receiver. The Futaba J8 has two, three position switches which allows for all features of the GPS Naza to be used, including the fail safe on loss of signal to Return To Home and land automatically.

The Battery Charger:

The SKY RC IMAX E6650 50W LiPo Battery Charger is the high performance charger supplied in the kit has a large, clear backlit LCD for easy set-up and use and is very compact, which means that it can be used at either the flight field from a 10 to 18V DC supply (cable included) or in the home with the supplied mains AC cable, AC input is between 100 - 240V. This charger is not just a LiPo charger it has the additional features of a discharger and balancer and can deliver up to 6.0 Amps of charging power for Li-Po, Li-Fe, Ni-Cd, Ni-MH, Li-Ion and Lead Acid batteries. The charger is supplied with the matching balance ports for the LiPo battery in this kit, there is a port for an optional temperature sensor to monitor the battery while on charge.
